A Different Spirit – Ps Paul van Coller

In the book of Numbers, Moses sent twelve spies to explore the Promised Land. They all saw the same land and the same giants, but not the same reality. Ten saw obstacles, while two, Caleb and Joshua, saw opportunity.

Ps Paul encouraged us to have a “different spirit”, a spirit of faith that sees what God sees.

“My servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows Me wholeheartedly. I will bring him into the land he went to.”
(Numbers 14:24)

1️⃣ What stood out to you from Sunday’s sermon?

Caleb and Joshua were positive but outnumbered by ten negative spies. We live in a world surrounded by negativity, negative reports and negative people.
2️⃣ Who and what are the influences in your life that help you have a more positive outlook?

Ps Paul mentioned 5 ways we can develop a different spirit:
1. Feed your spirit with God’s Word
2. Guard your focus
3. Follow God wholeheartedly
4. Stay filled with the Holy Spirit
5. Speak what you see by faith
3️⃣ Which one of these 5 do you feel you need to focus on more in your life?

Matthew 6:22–23 says:
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.”
What you focus on determines what fills your life, peace or fear, faith or doubt.
4️⃣ In your own life, in what ways have you noticed your thoughts and emotions being shaped by what you focus on?

Giants always stand between us and God’s promises. Faith doesn’t pretend the giants aren’t there, it declares that God is greater.
5️⃣ Are you facing any “giants” currently, and how can you face them with a different spirit?
